- F L I P S From John Intorcio

- Flips is a one player game played on a remote console through
- RBBS-PC ( (c) Tom Mack ). The game is entered through the "DOORS"
- sub-system. Upon entering, you will be presented with a main menu
- offering five choices. You've allready figured that out.
-
- Choice number 2 displays this file. You've allready figured that
- out too.
-
- Choices number 3 and 4 are used to set the parameters necessary to
- provide a proper display on your terminal. If your terminal can display
- the line graphic symbols in the extended ASCII character set, then you
- should set the graphics toggle to ASCII. Otherwise, leave it at NONE.
- If the lines on your screen are overlayed or doublespaced, adjust the
- line feed toggle.
-
- Choice number 1 is used to begin the game. FLIPS is played on an
- eight by eight grid with letters for the rows and numbers for the
- columns. Upon begining the game you will be given the choice of going
- first. Enter Y or N and push the enter key. The FLIPS board will then
- be displayed and either the computer will make its move or you will be
- asked to input yours. You may specify either the row or the column
- first. For example to move to row A column 6, you could enter A6
- <Enter> or 6A <Enter> or A <Enter> 6 <Enter> or 6 <Enter> A <Enter>.
- Any of these works. The computer will then make its move, pause for a
- moment to let you see what it did, redraw the screen with the added
- pieces, and ask you for your next move.
-
- The object of the game is to turn as many pieces as possible to your
- color by sourounding your opponents pieces with yours. You must
- souround at least one of your opponents pieces each time you move. If
- you can not do this, you must forfeit your move. The game ends when all
- squares are filled. The idea here is to continue sourounding your
- opponent so that at the end of the game, more pieces are of your color
- then of his. You may find it to your advantage to capture the corners
- and the edge squares. At any rate, on each move you must place a piece
- so that at least one of your opponents pieces (and perhaps more) are
- caught between two of your pieces. This will cause those pieces to
- "flip" to your color!
-
- If you find yourself in a posiition where you can't move, enter A0 as
- your move. If you wish to quit the game, enter Q for either coordinate.
- Be advised, however, that if you quit a game it counts as a victory
- for the computer!! So, do your best humans!
-
- Good Luck!
